Home delivered meals are available to Sacramento County seniors aged 60 or better who are homebound due to illness or recovery, disability, or other causes that prevent them from leaving their home. Eligible participants may receive either hot home-delivered meals every weekday or a box of five frozen meals once a week to heat at their convenience.
To see if you or someone you know may qualify for home-delivered meals, check our eligibility list below.
Eligibility Criteria for Home Delivered Meals
Individuals must be:
- 60 years of age or better
- Living in Sacramento County
- Primarily homebound
- Unable to easily prepare nutritious meals
- Lacking consistent support and assistance in day-to-day activities
- Able and available to accept meals during their 2-hour delivery time frame
If individuals meet the eligibility criteria and would like to apply for the home-delivered meals program, the first step is to call our office at (916) 444-9533. Following the initial intake process, a caseworker will make a home visit to complete an assessment, explain the program, and determine eligibility. Every three months, individuals receiving home-delivered meals are reassessed for continued eligibility either by phone or a home visit.
Along with home-delivered meals, eligible participants receive additional services from the program such as:
- Pet food deliveries for homebound participants’ dogs and cats through our AniMeals program (as available).
- Friendly visits and status checks during meal delivery.
- Monthly deliveries of Meals on Wheels newsletters and menus.
- Connections or referrals to community resources or services.
